Happy card making day!

i'm slowly getting back into creating things, even though i miss it terribly i'm in a funk right now, i just don't know where i'm going.  ok so that explains a bit of my absence.

Today is national card making day and we're having a little (ok a few) challenges over at PWCO,
everyone is issuing their own challenge through out the day, the Linkys will be open until 11:59 PM MST on Friday, October 7.  PWCO Images are not required, however, if you use them, you will be entered into the drawings twice.  You may enter as many cards/projects as you like, in as many of the challenges as you like.  Saturday, October 8, one winner from each challenge will be randomly drawn to win a $5 PWCO Gift Certificate!!  (So that's 6 GCs that are up for grabs!)


I'd also like to congratulate Peggy and Mike on today's wedding! i just can't imagine how beautiful it must've been, especially with Hawaii as a background.

So my challenge is this: create your own (it can be anything, your patterned paper, an embellishment, whatever...as long as you created it.)

In my card i created everything. i used some glimmer mist for the background and a very unused sizzix die for the Hawaiian flower and leaves.

New to this release is a color challenge- Each DT member will have a color challenge on their blog – the way we picked our colors, well that's simple they're our wedding colors! Now for me this little bit was a bit harder since i did not have a traditional wedding like most of the other girls.  My hubby and I got married, bare foot in the sand in Negril, Jamaica.  I guess you could say we eloped but it wasn't a secret from our families, we did however throw a really great Jamaican themed BBQ 1.5 months later.  I had invites and a wedding cake, i even put my dress back on to show those who hadn't seen it.   So here is my color challenge, sand and sea colors!  Aquamarine and Ivory (the color of my dress and the sand in Negril)

it's been a while...

somehow it seems that most of my posts lately start with this line....but it's true everytime; it's been a while.

Our house is finally finished, all the little things that were left to do by the contractor are done.  Of course that doesn't mean we're completely settled in.  We moved back first week of June and on june 29th i left for San Francisco with hubby for some work meetings, but i got to tag along which is always nice.  My mom came down to babysit the kids while we were away.  2 days after coming back we drove up to Amos, in the north of Quebec, to bury my dad.  He's finally in his resting place.  My sister cam down from Sk for the burial too, it was nice to see her.  She also had some awesome news to share with us.... she just got engaged!!!!! Congrats sis! Now can i call Brock my brother-in-law???
So with everything that was going on i still have some boxes to unpack, but i must say that it's coming along very well.  I'm really hoping to have everything done by the end of the month, then again we're already the 18th YIKES!!!

Scrappy news!  PWCO is having the next release on July 23rd and i'll be taking part in it.  yes, i still work with PWCO but i'm behind the scenes since i create the sketches and Steph takes care of all the postings.  It's better for me this way right now anyways.  i can't wait to get crafty again!

PWCO SS64 and an update

hi again!

things here are slowly moving, getting things settle with my fathers estate is taking longer than i would like and things with the house insurance are even slower.  it's been 2 1/2 months since the fire and there still has been no demolition or reconstruction done.  by the end of next week we should settle the $$ amount with the insurance and be able to start rebuilding the inside of the house (cause the outside hasn't been touched) i think once that's done things will move quite fast - deciding on new floors, new kitchen (cause we're expanding the kitchen) oh! and i'll have my own scrap room in the basement!

this is a cute little project i like to make, they're great to give as gifts too.

i stamped and colored my image on paper as usual but then i backed with with a piece of magnet.  i usually stamp (with Staz-On) or print on my magnet sheet but these stamps are so detailed that my copics were making the ink bleed so i went the paper route.
I hope you try this project, they would be great for teachers gift too.

new PWCO RAM release!

When i saw this new stamps from Rachelle Anne Miller, available now at PWCO

it made me think of my mom's apple pie, so i decided to create a little booklet with her apple pie recipe, the pie dough recipe and my favorite; her raisin pie recipe (i'm the only one who eats this in my house so i only make it at Christmas time)

correction: third instruction: Put in pie shell, toP with another crust and make vents

if anybody is interested let me know and i'll translate the dough and raisin pie recipes.

PWCO Sneak peek goodness

Oh man are you guys gonna be happy with this new PWCO release.  I'm not gonna say much because i want you guys to enjoy the release on friday. I won this backpack in a blog giveaway and was very impressed with the service from CSN. When we received the item my 3 yr old, who had picked the design for his backpack, was thrilled. he proceeded to put it on and i barely had to help him. he love bringing his backpack along with him where ever we go and it's the perfect size for him to wear. the quality is excellent, the zipper and seams are sturdy and i love the coated canvas on the front, very easy to wipe clean.
I would definitely recommend this item.

And here's a picture of Charlie, he just loves his backpack and wants to bring it with him everywhere, especially when we bring Brady to school, so they both have backpacks.  

PWCO free for all project

My friend Michelle is giving birth on September 9th with her first boy after having 2 gorgeous girls.  I'm lending her some of my stuff that i had kept and her sister in law gave her some hand-me downs too but sometimes it's nice to have something new.  I decided to make her a few onesies, they will all be decorated with material but i made one with this, totally perfect, stamp from the RAM collections.

i stamped the image directly on the onesie using Staz-On ink, it didn't go on as dark as i was hoping but i worked with it.  Now obviously copics and Staz-On are not a good mix so you have to be super careful, the copics will make your Staz-On ink bleed so you have to be careful.  i found the best way to color and not drag black from the outline was to tap with my copic, just as if i was trying to color in dots.  because it's on material, the colors bleed a little so you don't need to go all the way to the edge.

To make the clouds i used a post it that i cut in the shape of a cloud and i just used one of my copics and feathered around the edge.

BTW, blender doesn't really work that well on material....

 I saw this really great tutorial on SCS this week on how to make a window card and thought "WOW! that would be perfect for this week's sketch!" you can find the tutorial here.  

here's the card i made for this week's sketch (designed by me) at Paperworks Co. 

I used some of the new Echo Park papers that are also the kit this month, absolute fantastic collection.  If you didn't get this papercard kit yet....what are you waiting for!  i'm telling you; you NEED it!  I used two sizes of Nesties to create a window frame and pop doted my image on the inside of the card for a bit more dimension. 

I love the way it turned out and will probably make more of these!

summertime, isn't it wonderful?

This card is for this week's challenge focus at Paperworks Co.  I used a gorgeous Rachelle Anne Miller stamp from our newest release, great papers...well, kind of... and i'm only saying "kind of" because the "paper" with the sky, banner and fence is actually a fabric paper from the Dear Lizzie collection.  It was just so perfect for this stamp that i couldn't resist using it.

And this is a first for me, i usually do  a  card for a specific challenge, but as i was blog surfing i found so many good challenges this week that this card actually is good for three challenges out there.  To make it even more of a multi-functional card it's also for my friend's niece's first birthday; RAM's images are so wonderful for kids.

So the stamp i get to showcase is called "Day at the beach"

and here's my card, it's very simple but i like it that way.  i put the coordinating sentiment on the inside of the card, it says: "Conquering the world one sandcastle at a time"

   

I cut out some clouds and a sun and sponged some ink around them.  i used a cork sheet for the sand.  i just tore strips and inked the edges in brown, i love the way it turned out! and i added shimmer, lots of shimmer.  first i used Smooch illuminate and put it everywhere the sunlight would hit; her hat, the sandcastly, the crab, all the seashells have a nice coat of it and the two birds.  I also spritz the whole card with iridescent gold glimmer mist, it's pretty subtle though, you have to hold the card in the sunlight to really see it.  check out the next pic to see the shimmer, the golden flecks look great on the "cork" sand.
